2016 Recap: Isabel Lewis for Dia Foundation
I love when the lines of commissioned and personal work blur. Photographing the opening and closing of Isabel Lewis’s “Occasions and Other Occurrences" at Long Dock Park in Beacon, New York, brought together the many elements I’m inspired by in my own work; environment, human experience, spirituality, movement, connection, place.
This was a fun commission because it allowed me to see the piece at a longer length than I might have experienced it if I was there solely as visitor. Looking at the work through a photographic perspective also gave me the opportunity to contemplate the piece on an even deeper level and as I was editing I was struck by how someone might not be able to differentiate a visitor and those performing in when they looked at the images.
